Sovereignty Of God

Psalm 24 Domini est terra.

THE earth is the LORD'S, and all that therein is; * the compass of the world, and they that dwell therein.

2For he hath founded it upon the seas, * and stablished it upon the floods.

3Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? * or who shall rise up in his holy place?

4Even he that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; * and that hath not lift up his mind unto vanity, nor sworn to deceive his neighbour.

5He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, * and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

6This is the generation of them that seek him; * even of them that seek thy face, O God of Jacob.

7Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; * and the King of glory shall come in.

8Who is this King of glory? * It is the LORD strong and mighty, even the LORD mighty in battle.

9Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; * and the King of glory shall come in.

10Who is this King of glory? * Even the LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.

Psalm 46 Deus noster refugium.

GOD is our hope and strength, * a very present help in trouble.

8O come hither, and behold the works of the LORD, * what destruction he hath brought upon the earth.

9He maketh wars to cease in all the world; * he breaketh the bow, and knappeth the spear in sunder, and burneth the chariots in the fire.

4He shall choose out an heritage for us, * even the excellency of Jacob, whom he loved.

5God is gone up with a merry noise, * and the LORD with the sound of the trump.

6O sing praises, sing praises unto our God; * O sing praises, sing praises unto our King.

7For God is the King of all the earth: * sing ye praises with understanding.

GIVE the King thy judgments, O God, * and thy righteousness unto the King's son.

2Then shall he judge thy people according unto right, * and defend the poor.

3The mountains also shall bring peace, * and the little hills righteousness unto the people.

4He shall keep the simple folk by their right, * defend the children of the poor, and punish the wrong doer.

5They shall fear thee, as long as the sun and moon endureth, * from one generation to another.

6He shall come down like the rain upon the mown grass, * even as the drops that water the earth.

7In his time shall the righteous flourish; * yea, and abundance of peace, so long as the moon endureth.

8His dominion shall be also from the one sea to the other, * and from the River3 unto the world's end.

9They that dwell in the wilderness shall kneel before him; * his enemies shall lick the dust.

10The kings of Tarshish4 and of the isles shall give presents; * the kings of Arabia and Saba shall bring gifts.

11All kings shall fall down before him; * all nations shall do him service.

12For he shall deliver the poor when he crieth; * the needy also, and him that hath no helper.

13He shall be favourable to the simple and needy, * and shall preserve the souls of the poor.

4Thy seed will I stablish for ever, * and set up thy throne from one generation to another.

5O LORD, the very heavens shall praise thy wondrous works; * and thy truth in the congregation of the saints.

6For who is he among the clouds, * that shall be compared unto the LORD?

7And what is he among the gods, * that shall be like unto the LORD?

8God is very greatly to be feared in the council of the saints, * and to be had in reverence of all them that are round about him.

9O Lord God of hosts, who is like unto thee? * thy truth, most mighty LORD, is on every side.

21I have found David my servant; * with my holy oil have I anointed him.

22My hand shall hold him fast, * and my arm shall strengthen him.

23The enemy shall not be able to do him violence; * the son of wickedness shall not hurt him.

24I will smite down his foes before his face, * and plague them that hate him.

25My truth also and my mercy shall be with him; * and in my Name shall his horn be exalted.

26I will set his dominion also in the sea, * and his right hand in the floods.

27He shall call me, Thou art my Father, * my God, and my strong salvation.

28And I will make him my firstborn, * higher than the kings of the earth.

29My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, * and my covenant shall stand fast with him.

30His seed also will I make to endure for ever, * and his throne as the days of heaven.

31But if his children forsake my law, * and walk not in my judgments;

32If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; * I will visit their offences with the rod, and their sin with scourges.

33Nevertheless, my loving-kindness will I not utterly take from him, * nor suffer my truth to fail.

34My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips: * I have sworn once by my holiness, that I will not fail David.

35His seed shall endure for ever, * and his throne is like as the sun before me.

36He shall stand fast for evermore as the moon, * and as the faithful witness in heaven.

37But thou hast abhorred and forsaken thine anointed, * and art displeased at him.

38Thou hast broken the covenant of thy servant, * and cast his crown to the ground.

39Thou hast overthrown all his hedges, * and broken down his strongholds.

40All they that go by spoil him, * and he is become a reproach to his neighbours.

41Thou hast set up the right hand of his enemies, * and made all his adversaries to rejoice.

42Thou hast taken away the edge of his sword, * and givest him not victory in the battle.

43Thou hast put out his glory, * and cast his throne down to the ground.

44The days of his youth hast thou shortened, * and covered him with dishonour.

48Lord, where are thy old loving-kindnesses, * which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?
